When you apply the Overlay and Hue layers, are you coloring flat colors on overlay, then duplicating it and setting the new layer to hue? Or are you creating two new layers (one overlay and one hue) and coloring on each layer separately to get the colored effects you desire? Are you using overlay for the flat color, or hue?
